I have lived and was educated in Tournai, French-speaking Belgium,
until the age of 18. I then graduated at 23 as agricultural
engineer from the French-speaking university
of Gembloux.
Tournai borders with France, the closest major city being Lille.
This Belgian region constitutes somewhat of a French enclave where
no Walloon is spoken; we instead share our dialect and cultural
background with the Northern France region of Picardie and the Paris
area.
My mother tongue thus definitely is French of France.
