I took courses at the Goethe Institut in Brussels in 1987, while
at the same time learning with the Assimil
method. I also spent the next summer in Germany and have since then
been reading the German press regularly.
Another step came at the European
Patent Office, where I came to use German as a customary
working language, daily reading technical documents as well as writing
communications to applicants (German is an official working language
at the EPO).
I now feel confident with the language and much at ease reading
technical texts.
